Plymouth Karate-Do was founded in 1998, by it's current chief instructor Sensei Paul Uren. The club is a traditional Shotokan Karate club, and is affiliated to SEKU (Shotokan of England Karate Union) and Karate England.
We have regular quarterly gradings led by 6th and 7th Dan senior SEKU instructors, as well as other training courses and squad training sessions.
We are firstly a traditional dojo, but do also embrace competition Karate for those students who wish to participate. We have had a high level of success in recent years producing many kata and kumite champions, both adults and juniors. The club prides itself on being able to offer traditional Karate-do as well as all other aspects relevant to modern Karate.
Being a traditional Karate club, we strive to offer all the important aspects which comprise true Shotokan Karate-do. We take pride our instruction of all aspects of Kihon, Kata and Kumite, as well as following the Karate-do principles our forefather's set for us.
“The ultimate aim of karate-do lies not in victory or defeat, but in the perfection of character of its participants"
Funakoshi Gichin - the founder of modern Karate.
